When to Use a Platform: Smarter Roof Access Starts Here

Some roofs just aren’t made for a traditional fixed ladder. Whether it’s due to obstructions, security concerns, or structural challenges, a LadderPort Platform provides a better, safer alternative.

Here’s when a platform makes the most sense:

1. When the Roof Edge Has an Obstruction

Obstructions like awnings, signage, or overhangs at the roofline can make a vertical ladder installation impossible. Even on the rooftop side, equipment, electrical chases, or piping along the roof edge can interfere with safe access. The LadderPort Platform shifts the access point away from both outside and inside obstructions—ensuring and gives workers a secure, OSHA-compliant entry route.

2. When There’s a Parapet—Or Not

The LadderPort Platform works with or without a parapet. If one is present, a properly sized Parapet Back Ladder may be needed for safe transition. Optional handholds can also be added to the Back Ladder based on height for extra stability. The LadderPort Platform works with or without a parapet.

3. When a Mid-Roof Wall Creates a Barrier

If your roof has a dividing wall or other structure set back from the edge, a LadderPort Platform bridges that gap—keeping access straightforward and safe.

4. When You Want to Guide Foot Traffic Away from the Roof Edge

Not every rooftop access should land workers right at the edge. Longer platform lengths provide a safe walkway away from the edge before transitioning to the roof.

5. When You Need Security Without Sacrificing Safety

Some fixed ladders include a short rooftop platform, but they still leave a climbable structure exposed. LadderPort Platforms secure the user’s own extension ladder with hooks and side plates—no permanent rungs to attract unauthorized access.

6. When You Need Length and Flexibility

Platforms come in lengths from 28" to 98" or longer, depending on the site. That flexibility makes them ideal for varied roof designs, multiple levels, and non-standard layouts.
