  • What exactly does LadderPort do?

Our products help keep workers, inspectors, contractors and maintenance personnel safe and OSHA-compliant.
  • Why Is My Shipping Cost So High When the Products Aren’t That Heavy?
Shipping costs don’t depend on weight alone. In fact, freight pricing often works in the opposite way you’d expect. For example, shipping a carton of ping pong balls can be more expensive than shipping a car engine because of handling, and other conditions. Factors that increase shipping cost: Weight & Handling: Any item over 70 lbs requires a forklift or a loading dock. If unavailable, a lift gate truck is needed, which adds to the cost. Most of our products ship on pallets to avoid product damage, and exceed 70 lbs. Delivery Location: Freight carriers charge extra for: Construction sites Limited-access locations (e.g., no space for large trucks to turn around) Secured entrances Schools, universities, hospitals, and shipping centers Deliveries requiring appointments or pre-delivery phone calls Since most of our shipments (except for UPS) require a lift gate truck, forklift, or loading dock, it’s essential to provide accurate delivery details. Incorrect or incomplete information may result in penalty fees from the freight company.

  • Why do I need an Instructional Wall Sign for the LadderPort Ladder Receiver?
An instructional wall sign offers clear, concise, and visual guidance for the correct use of the LadderPort Ladder Receiver. Positioned at eye level, it serves as a reference point for personnel, ensuring proper ladder placement and stabilization. Additionally, in the event of improper use, the presence of the sign demonstrates that clear usage instructions were provided, which can be critical in addressing safety concerns and liability in case of an injury.
  • Is there an electric version of the Cranky Portable Winch available?
No, the Cranky is specifically engineered for optimal lifting efficiency. Adding an electric option would significantly increase the unit’s weight, making transportation more challenging. Additionally, many rooftop areas lack access to electricity, limiting practicality. A battery-operated drill is not a viable alternative, as even high-quality drills are unable to sustain a 300 lb. load for the necessary duration.
  • Do you sell a Cranky that lifts more than 300 lbs. ?
No, we do not offer a Cranky model designed to lift more than 300 lbs. Once loads exceed this weight, it is generally safer and more practical to rent a crane. This ensures proper load stability, minimizes risk, and complies with safety regulations for heavier lifts.
  • What type of wall can LadderPort be mounted on?
LadderPort can be mounted on masonry, wood, or other strong surfaces. If your building has a different exterior (such as metal paneling or EIFS), consult a structural engineer for proper attachment methods.
  • Do I need additional supports?
For certain installations—especially on EFIS walls and pre-engineered metal buildings additional bracing may be required. In those situations, check with a structural engineer or architect.
  • I have an EFIS wall, do you have any suggestions for installation?
First and foremost, always check with an architect or structural engineer. It is imperative there is a solid backing behind the EFIS. We also recommend the following: Through bolting using threaded rod Install pvc pipe slightly shorter than the threaded rod Fasten anchors up to the threaded rod Optionally, add treated wood or composite board to spread the load and protect the EFIS from damage.
  • What tools do I need for installation?
Most installations require: Power drill Drill bits (sizes vary by product) Wrenches or sockets A level Anchors or additional fasteners (depending on wall type) Safety gear (harness, gloves, and eye protection)
  • Is there a Cranky Portable mount for use over the side of a building?
No. In order to meet OSHA pull weight requirements and to meet safety standards, a permanent mount post must be installed when lifting over the side of the building.
  • Do LadderPort products come with all necessary hardware?
LadderPort Ladder Receivers & Cranky Permanent Mounts Posts - An optional hardware installation kit is offered for purchase. This kit is only for use when through-bolting and fastening are possible on both the interior and exterior sides of the wall. The kit includes threaded rods, nuts, bolts, and various anchors. If through-bolting is not feasible, it is advisable to consult a structural engineer or architect to determine suitable alternative installation hardware. Most other LadderPort products come with the necessary assembly hardware. However, depending on the specific wall type, additional anchors or mounting supports may be required to ensure secure installation.
  • Are there any installation restrictions?
Yes. Always: Follow OSHA fall protection guidelines. Check local building codes before installation. Ensure the mounting surface is strong enough to support the product and user weight. Avoid installing directly on top of conduits, wiring, or roof obstacles.
  • Will the Roof Hatch Grab Bar installation cause leaks or penetrate the roof?
No, there have never been any leaks reported. The included installation kit also includes a special caulk to be used during installation as extra added protection. LadderPort grab bars install securely without crushing the flashing, ensuring a proper fit while maintaining roof integrity.
  • What OSHA regulations do LadderPort products meet?
LadderPort products are designed to meet OSHA standards for fixed ladders and roof access, including: OSHA 1910.23 – Ladders (stability, height, and clearance requirements) OSHA 1910.28 – Duty to Have Fall Protection (reducing fall hazards at ladder access points) OSHA 1910.29 – Fall Protection Systems (proper mounting and handhold requirements) OSHA 1910.27 (d)(3) - clearance between hand rails OSHA - Walking-Working Surface Rule
  • Does LadderPort ensure full OSHA compliance?
LadderPort products help meet OSHA standards, but compliance depends on proper installation and use. We recommend consulting a safety officer or OSHA representative to ensure full compliance.
  • Who is responsible for product maintenance?
The user is responsible for inspecting and maintaining their LadderPort product. Over time, metal components may corrode, loosen, or rust, so regular inspections and maintenance—including tightening, repairs, or replacement—are necessary for continued safety.
  • What if my product is defective?

Yes, but returns must meet these conditions: Items must be unused and resalable. A 25% restocking fee applies. No returns on used, special order, or custom-built items. Returns must be made within 30 days of the invoice date. Buyers are responsible for all freight charges. LadderTech will determine if a returned product is resalable, and that decision is final.
